One Step Back, Three Steps ForwardThe Shelving of Broken Crown: Escaping Titan
Dear Broken Crown fans,
It is with a heavy heart that today I make the official announcement that the Broken Crown: Escaping Titan
project has been shelved. As the original brainchild and creative director for the project for more than two years, this was obviously a hard decision, but we feel it was the best choice for the long-term success of our studio and also success of the Broken Crown series. What does this mean? (One Step Back)
I know some of you are more from the science community than the gaming community, so I wanted to explain what this means for the project. By shelving the project, this means that we will be halting production on this title, and will attempt to resume production at an unknown later date.
Unfortunately, in order for the studio to keep its doors open, as well as for the Broken Crown series to stay alive, we’ve had to make the hard decision to temporarily stop development on Escaping Titan
, and refocus our efforts elsewhere. What will happen to the e-book series from Kickstarter? (First Step Forward)
This is the first piece of good news (our first step forward). Though the e-books are meant as a backstory builder for the Escaping Titan
game itself, they also generically cover much of the narrative that will be relevant to ALL the Broken Crown series games - and as these were already funded via our wonderful Kickstarter backers, we are still hard at work on these.
You can expect the first episodes of the e-books to come out next month! Why is this happening? (Second Step Forward)
Well, actually its happening for both a good and bad reason.
The Escaping Titan team was primarily composed of what we referred to as the ‘volunteer army’. These were individuals willing to work for free in trade for our help in improving their game development skills, and allowing them to use their work for us in their professional portfolio in hopes of finding a paying job in the future. Fortunately, this program was a resounding success for participants, as over the past year, two of our artists were able to land positions at AAA development studios! Unfortunately however, this also means that due to lack of funding to compete with these larger studios, we’re losing talent quicker than we could replace it and the project has become stagnant.
This brings me to the second piece of good news (our second step forward). These success stories have proven to be a wonderful recruiting tool for future volunteer army members, and even though the project is now being shelved, we’re still on the look out for new talent for this and other future projects! What’s next? (Third Step Toward the Future)
Just because the Escaping Titan project has been shelved doesn’t mean we’re going anywhere! Here are some things you can look forward to:
*Feb. 5th & 6th - We’ll be at Apps World North America in San Francisco
*Feb. 15th - Our sister company, Broken Crayon Games, will be announcing a new title they will be publishing!
*Mar. 1st - Broken Crayon Games’ new title will be released - shhh… don’t tell anyone
*Apr. 11-13th - We’ll be exhibiting at PAX East in Boston again!
To wrap this up, I know many of you may be just as disappointed as we are about having to shelved the Escaping Titan project, but we’re here to stay and we still have every intention of coming back to the project when the timing is right again.

We can’t thank everyone enough for their continued support, and a huge shout out goes to all the amazing development team members that helped us get the Escaping Titan project as far as it did.
